Prepare for ECC Prisma for Commodities.

ECC is preparing to replace its SPAN-based derivatives margin model with ECC Prisma for Commodities. This guide explains the announced transition and the information needed for a meaningful portfolio comparison. Cumulus9’s ECC PRISMA implementation remains under validation and is not offered here as a live client margin calculation.

Discuss ECC migration requirements

Prepare a comparable portfolio assessment

  1. Step 1

    Establish the current basis

Retain the positions, account scope, currency and SPAN-based reference report. Identify which margin components the report includes before comparing it with a new-model simulation.

  2. Step 2

    Identify the new inputs

Review ECC’s Transparency Enabler Files, including its weighting-factor file, and the comparison reports planned for the parallel run. Keep each result tied to its environment, parameter date and portfolio.

  3. Step 3

    Investigate before relying on results

Check product mapping, currencies, permitted offsets and result scope. Confirm the status of the reference data and the calculation service before using a simulation in an operational decision.

The announced timetable

As reviewed on 15 October 2026, ECC schedules functional activation and the parallel run for 19 October 2026. Its migration page gives Q1 2027 for the start of client migration; Circular 69/2026 retains March 2027 for planned full migration. These are announced milestones, not confirmation that either transition has completed.

  • 19 October 2026: scheduled parallel run and availability of production data for comparison.
  • Q1 2027: planned start of client migration.
  • March 2027: planned full migration in ECC’s 24 September circular.
  • Consult ECC’s current notices before making a cutover decision.

A separate model from Eurex PRISMA

ECC Prisma for Commodities uses technology originally developed by Eurex Clearing, with commodity-specific parameters and product treatment. ECC describes market-risk calculations within liquidation-group splits, together with liquidity and portfolio-margining adjustments. Shared technology does not make Eurex and ECC parameters, coverage or results interchangeable.

Separate simulated requirements from margin calls

ECC plans comparison reports during the parallel phase so participants can assess both models. Until the official migration, the existing SPAN-based figures remain the basis of margin calls. A Prisma simulation therefore needs an explicit environment and calculation date, and should not be presented as the amount currently payable.

Confirm Cumulus9 availability for your workflow

Cumulus9 has a separate ECC PRISMA implementation under validation. Client availability depends on product mapping, parameter coverage and financial conformance. Existing Eurex PRISMA support does not establish ECC readiness. Contact us with your product scope, currencies and comparison requirements to discuss the workflow and confirm availability.

Questions about the ECC transition

Is this a live ECC PRISMA calculator?
No. This is an educational migration guide. It does not provide a calculated requirement or announce production availability of Cumulus9’s ECC PRISMA service.
What changes in the parameter files?
ECC describes a transition from SPAN files to Transparency Enabler Files aligned with the Prisma interfaces, including an additional WGFCT weighting-factor file. Review the current ECC documentation and sample data for the exact field and delivery requirements.
Does the transition guarantee lower margin?
No. The impact depends on the portfolio, product grouping and applicable parameters and adjustments. Use the parallel-run comparisons for your own book and keep any claimed change tied to that specific calculation basis.
What should we prepare for a discussion?
Bring a non-sensitive description of the products, currencies, account structure and report fields you need to compare. A representative synthetic portfolio can help establish requirements before any client data is shared.
